SEDONA WINERIES: BEST WINE TASTING AROUND SEDONA’S VERDE VALLEY
LOOKING TO EXPERIENCE THE SEDONA WINERIES?
Sedona is known for its breathtaking red rock formations, stunning sunsets, and vibrant arts scene. It is also in the heart of Arizona’s wine producing region, the Verde Valley.
The last time I visited Sedona I set aside an afternoon to visit some wineries. I honestly found it confusing and time consumnig to plan out an agenda becuase the wineries are not technically in Sedona.
I created this post to help you understand where the closest wineries are to Sedona. It will also help you decide if they can fit into your itinerary and if you want to take a group tour or make the scenic drive yourself.
This is your complete guide to the Sedona wineries.
SEDONA WINERY FACTS
Does Sedona really not have any wineries?
There aren’t any wineries in Sedona. There is only one tasting room, Winery 1912 in Uptown. To have an authentic winery experience, you’ll have to drive 25 minutes outside of Sedona to the Verde Valley Wine Trail.
Is Sedona known for wine?
Yes, Sedona is increasingly recognized for its wine production, particularly in the nearby Verde Valley. Several wineries and vineyards have established themselves in the area, producing a variety of wines.
Does Sedona have good wine?
The area is ideal for growing wine grapes thanks to its semi-arid climate and volcanic soils. The warmer temperatures lead to many annual grape-growing days, making it well-suited for warm-climate grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Zinfandel, and Viognier. Thus making this a premium grape-growing region.
THE VERDE VALLEY WINE TRAIL

What is the Verde Valley? And Where is it?
At 3,200 feet above sea level (lower than Sedona), The Verde Valley is a 1,200-square-mile valley in central Arizona. It’s 25 miles southwest of Sedona and 85 miles north of Phoenix. It is surrounded by the Woodchute and Mingus Mountains and is traversed by the Verde River.
What is the Verde Valley Wine Trail?
The Verde Valley Wine Trail connects 19 vineyards/wineries/tasting rooms along 25 miles of terrain. The trail categorizes each establishment by city: Camp Verde, Clarkdale, Cornville, Cottonwood, Jerome, and Sedona.
The trail has a user-friendly website with maps, an app, and a fun passport. The passport can be downloaded and stamped at each winery. When you visit 10 locations, upload your passport on their website and enter into a quarterly and yearly grand prize drawing. The app also makes it easy to identify which vineyards/wineries/tasting rooms are located in each town.

Page Springs Cellars is the perfect place to kick back with great Arizona wine and gorgeous views. This Sedona winery was my second favorite stop. The tasting room is cozy and rustic, but the real treat is their deck, where you can sip your wine with a view of the vineyard and creek.
They pride themselves on their sustainable practices and being community-focused. The patio area and grounds are pet-friendly. I also appreciated the covered parking.

The name says it, but this is a tasting room not a winery. Although expansive views aren’t present, this is still an excellent place to sample wines and snack. I was surprised that the staff came and sat with us to extensively review the menu, ask about my wine preferences, and make recommendations.
Do not let the bar/restaurant feel deter you. Cove Mesa has created a great atmosphere. You can enjoy your vino with pups on the dog-friendly patio. They also set themselves apart by offering 2oz pours!

OTHER VERDE VALLEY WINE TRAIL WINERY RECOMMENDATIONS
If you’d like to venture further, there are many more wineries/vineyards in the area. I’m recommending two more winery experiences: Merkin Vineyards and Alcantara Vineyards.
Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria (Open Mon-Thurs, 11am to 9pm, Fri-Sat, 11am to 10pm, & Sun, 11am to 6pm)

This is not a Sedona winery, but it’s only a 30-minute drive to the southwest. Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria is set up on a hill in Old Town Cottonwood and gives stunning views of the Verde Valley. Although it opened in Oct. 2023, it is already legendary, thanks to the famous owner β Maynard James Keenan, lead singer of the band Tool.
Inside, the vibe is laid-back but stylish. Their menu is packed with fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from nearby farms, and you’ll find handmade pasta, wood-fired pizzas, and unique salads. The Merkin Mac & Cheese was fabulous!
At Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria you’ll experience,
π· A fun tram ride up ($2)
π· Beautiful scenic views
π· A vast wine list
π· Elevated food
π· An inviting and energetic indoor and outdoor atmosphere

Alcantara Vineyards (Open Daily, 11am to 5pm)

Just 35 minutes southwest of Sedona and 17 minutes south of Old Town Cottonwood, Alcantara Vineyards is a perfect spot to kick back and enjoy wine right by the Verde River! The place feels like a hidden oasis with its lush vines, pretty views, and super chill vibe.
The vineyard is family-owned, sustainable, and patriotic. Their tasting room is cozy, and there is tons of outdoor seating to soak in the views of their expansive grounds.

While I’ve outlined the Sedona wineries, I’ve answered a few questions to help plan your tasing itinerary.
Which Sedona wineries have food?
Each of the 5 Sedona wineries have food options but they vary from appetizers to a full menu. I’ve outlines each below.
- DA Ranch – local food trucks are on the property daily. Verify the times here

- Oak Creek Vineyards & Winery – appetizers only, specials are available on the weekends

Which Sedona wineries have a view?

Each of the Sedona wineries has a view. They are all nestled in the Verde Valley but their views are limited and unique to their grounds. This does not mean youβll be disappointed. The scenery is still exceptional.
If you want a view of these Sedona wineries, Merkin Vineyards Hilltop Winery & Trattoria in Old Town Cottonwood will deliver.
Which are the best wineries in Sedona?
My two recommendations are DA Ranch and Page Springs Cellars. Their grounds are the largest and most well-kept, their tasting rooms are the most comfortable, and they are properties you’re likely to spend more time visiting. They are all so close together you don’t need to limit yourself to two, however if you need to, these are my favorites.
SEDONA WINE TOURS
I did not take a guided tasting tour, but Iβve included links to the top four area tour operators below. Each operator provides a range of time frames, food, and group and private options.
