“HELL YEAH!” CAYMAN ISLANDS
Welcome to Hell! This is one of Grand Cayman’s most intriguing attractions. What is this geological phenomenon, where is it, and how do you get there? All great questions to ask.
Here are the basic facts you need to know about Cayman Islands Hell:

WHAT IS HELL AND WHY IS IT CALLED HELL?
Hell is roughly the size of half a soccer field (50 yards). The black, jagged rock formations resemble a scorched or ‘hellish’ landscape. These short black stone formations are limestone and dolomites estimated to be 10 to 15 million years old.
The sharp, spiky appearance of the rocks is due to the combination of weathering and the dissolution of limestone by acidic rainwater. The resulting terrain looks like something out of another world, making it a fascinating natural attraction on the island.
WHO OWNS HELL?
The Cayman Islands government owes the Hellish landscape. A local man privately owns the land that backs up to it. He established the leading gift shop in 1985 to bring tourism to the area. Today, the owner is in his 90s and frequently dresses up as the devil to meet and greet his victims, I mean visitors.
WHERE IS HELL ON GRAND CAYMAN?
Three sister islands make up the Cayman Islands. Grand Cayman, the largest, Little Cayman, and Cayman Brac. Hell is located on the northwest corner of Grand Cayman in the district of West Bay. Google Maps makes it easy to navigate to Hell. If you get lost, the locals are friendly and will point you in the right direction.
The official address of Hell is 93 Hell Road, West Bay, Grand Cayman.
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET TO HELL?

The best way to Hell is by personal vehicle. A public bus route does run past the attraction, but make sure you get on the WB #1 or WB #2 bus. You may be uncomfortable waiting if it’s hot, humid, raining, or all of the above. If the bus doesn’t work for you, there are other options to get there.
HOW FAR FROM HELL IS THE GRAND CAYMAN PORT?
Hell is approximately 8 miles (11 km) from the Grand Cayman Port in George Town. Depending on traffic, it takes a car 15 to 20 minutes to reach Hell from the port. Many visitors take organized tours, taxis, or rent vehicles to make the short trip.
WHAT IS THE POPULATION OF HELL?

Hell is a small community of about 40 people. The local post office gives Hell its official standing as a town in Grand Cayman. This West Bay district, where Hell is located, has a population of around 12,000.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE VISITING HELL
Before visiting Hell, it’s helpful to know a few details that can make your trip easier. The best times to visit, admission prices, tour and parking details, and what to do there will help you plan a stop at this unusual destination.
Here is what you need to know before you go to Hell:

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT HELL?
Hell is a great place to visit any time of year. It is no surprise that the further into summer you visit, the closer it will feel to being in Hell. If you get hot, you can cool down in the air-conditioned gift shop, with restrooms.
As far as the time of day, I recommend going early. On cruise ship days, Monday-Thursday, passengers arrive on tours around 9:00-9:30. If you want to increase your chances of being alone in Hell, plan on going early.
Insider Tip: The Cayman Islands’ busy season runs from October/November until May. If you want the least likelihood of a crowd, go in the early mornings of the shoulder months.
WHEN IS HELL OPEN?
Hell’s limestone formations are accessible 24 hours a day. The leading gift shop and restrooms are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and the gift shops by the post office open at 9:00 a.m.
HOW MUCH DOES VISITING HELL COST?
Admission to Hell is free.
IS THERE FREE PARKING?

Yes, parking is free. There are two parking lots. One is here, near the main gift shop, and the other to the left, next door by the post office.
DO YOU NEED TO DO A TOUR WHEN YOU VISIT HELL?

You do not need to take a tour when visiting Hell. If you have a rental car, you should go on your own. It will be faster and cheaper. There are many educational signs on the property, a video in the gift shop, and the employees are highly knowledgeable.
CAYMAN ISLANDS HELL TOURS
A cruise ship excursion is one of the most common ways to see Hell by tour. If you aren’t on a cruise ship, don’t fret; there are island tours that stop at Hell. Hell isn’t extensive or time-consuming to warrant its own tour, not to discount it, but it’s a 30-60 minute stop.
Here is a list of Viator Tour options that stop at Hell and still allow you to see more island sites.

THINGS TO DO IN HELL

Besides viewing the main attraction, there are other fun things at Hell.
✅ Send someone a postcard from Hell: Purchase a post card and postage, drop it in the mailbox, and the gift shop will mail it from Hell’s post office.
✅ Take a photo with Angel and the Devil: Hell has fun photo options around the property. You can put your face in cutouts or stand with the devil beside the limestone rocks.
✅ Shop: Like most gift shops, Hell’s has all kinds of fun “to Hell and back” souvenirs. You can purchase T-shirts, postcards, shot glasses, hats, and more.
✅ Visit with the gift shop family members: The women in the gift shop are kind, funny, and helpful, and they are a great source of information about local history and thier grandfather, who is the attraction’s founder.
IS HELL WORTH VISITING?
Hell is a fun place to visit in the Cayman Islands. If you only have an afternoon or a few days there, you may want to skip it to make time for other stops like Kittiwake, Rum Point, or Stingray City. The good news is that Hell won’t take up much time, but I think it is worth stopping by if you can fit it in.
